ATLANTA — Two MARTA officers were injured after a shooting at the Five Points station in downtown Atlanta Thursday night.
The gunman, 26-year-old Christopher Daniels, was captured by U.S. Marshals in Guntersville, Alabama, on Friday morning. He is being charged with two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of obstruction, public indecency and gun possession.
Police said the officers confronted the suspect, who was urinating on a station platform.
“When they tried to handcuff him, they got the handcuffs in one arm and he used the other arm to reach in and pull the weapon out, and fire behind him,” MARTA Police Chief Scott Kreher told Channel 2’s Tom Regan. “He fired a total of six shots.”
MARTA police officials say Officer Carlos Williams was shot in the arm and underwent surgery Friday.
Officer Rayven Thomas is home recovering after receiving a shrapnel injury to her knee and temporary hearing loss.

“It’s not only a relief to our injured officers, but it should be to the public, that someone who is willing to shoot a police officer is now in custody and off the street,” Kreher said.
Kreher told Channel 2 that the woman officer fired back at the suspect, who was identified and tracked on MARTA’s security cameras. He said the man made it to the West End station and ditched his gun.
