ATLANTA — Kroger announced last week that it plans to shutter 60 stores nationwide. Four of those stores are in Metro Atlanta.
Kroger will close the stores on Morosgo Way in Atlanta, Douglas Road in Alpharetta, Memorial Drive in Decatur and Buford Highway in Brookhaven later this year.
The Ohio-based grocery store chain says the closures are an effort to streamline operations and enhance efficiency.

Some shoppers at the Brookhaven location said they saw the shutdown coming.
“I think that it’s a bad sign,” Mark Jarrett told Channel 2’s Audrey Washington.
He said there are too many stores along Buford Highway for Kroger to compete against.
“There’s a new Latin food grocery store, an Aldi. There’s a City Market,” Jarrett said.
“It’s very inconvenient,” Terry Sawyer said outside of the Morosgo Way store.
There are several apartment buildings near the Morosgo store. Shoppers Joan Mclaughlin and Prigitte Williams said because the store stays busy, they were shocked to learn about the closure.
“I can’t believe they’re closing because they make good business,” Williams said.
“The reason I moved over here was because of the Kroger,” Mclaughlin said.
Mclaughlin said she next plans to get help from her son when the Kroger closes.
“I have a son. I guess he’ll have to take his mother,” Mclaughlin said.
Kroger said it plans to offer roles at other stores to everyone affected by the closures.
