ATLANTA — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation says eight of the nine officer-involved shootings so far this year in the state happened in the metro Atlanta area.
For the current year’s reported shootings involving police or other law enforcement officers, three were fatal, with one in Atlanta, one in Roswell and one in Coweta County on Interstate 85.

The other, outside of the metro area, was in Camden County, Ga. on the state’s southeast coast. It was non-fatal.
The most recent happened Monday night in Clayton County, in Jonesboro, when a woman got into a shootout with deputies after being chased across the county line from Fayette County.

Between the start of 2020 and the end of 2024, there were 495, with a peak in 2022 and a five-year low in 2024.
