ATLANTA — She’s already made her debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but next week, actress Dominique Thorne is headlining her own show.
Thorne, 27, will reprise her role as Riri Williams from “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” in “Ironheart.”

Channel 2’s Karyn Greer sat down with the Cornell graduate who calls Atlanta home to discuss filming the series right here in metro Atlanta.
Thorne plays a 15-year-old super genius from Chicago who designs a suit of armor much like Iron Man’s.
The actress says it’s special to see a young, Black girl taking the lead in a project as big as “Ironheart.”
“A young, Black girl from Chicago taking center stage in the MCU? It’s really something special, and it feels special to have seen how much thought the creators really put behind the people who will be telling this story,” she told Greer. “So it was reassuring to go on this journey and not feel like I was in it alone.”
It’s not her first stint in metro Atlanta. After filming “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” and “Ironheart” in Atlanta, she says she and her family made the move to the Hollywood of the South.
“I’ve like fallen more and more in love with it, you know, from filming ‘Wakanda Forever’ to ‘Ironheart.’ My parents fell in love with it and made the move down here,” Thorne said.
But like any good Atlantan, Thorne has her favorite restaurants.
“I really like Fishmonger, Slim & Husky’s. Oh gosh, I used to like this breakfast place. They have this banana bread French toast. I don’t know what it is. I love how all my favorite places have to do with food,” she said.
But she also says she loves spending time on the Atlanta BeltLine.
“But my dog and I also love the BeltLine. I love, love, love the BeltLine, yeah,” Thorne said.
The first three episodes of “Ironheart” premiere exclusively on Disney+ on June 24.
