EXCLUSIVE: Video shows dismissed APD recruits getting kicked out of East Point bar

ATLANTA — New video shows the interaction that led the Atlanta Police Department to dismiss four recruits from its training academy.

According to an East Point Police Department incident report Schneider Predestin, Tristan Dunrod, Justin Roberson and Wendy Celestin were customers at a restaurant called the U Bar near Camp Creek Parkway on June 14.

Security there told police they kicked Predestin out of the bar, and Celestin was with him.

Surveillance video, shown exclusively on WSB Tonight at 11 p.m., shows a person that security believes was Celestin trying to get back inside, but they would not let him.

That’s when security told police that Celestin left in a car and fired two shots into the air.

The security guard told police he took cover and watched as the man drove off and shot three more bullets into the air.

A deputy there tried to pull the shooter over, according to the police report, but lost sight of the car and ended the chase.

Crime scene investigators arrived and collected five .9mm shell casings on the ground, according to police.

Investigators said after the shooting, the other three recruits were in front of the bar.

A security guard told the deputy they were with the shooter and knew him. According to the report, the men were intoxicated and “giving officers a hard time.”

While officers were questioning the three men, they said Roberson continued to be so disorderly, they cuffed him and placed him in the back of the patrol car. He was not arrested.

Weeks later, police ended up obtaining a warrant and arresting Celestin.

They charged him with disorderly conduct, attempting to flee, and misdemeanor firing a gun near a public street.

Channel 2’s Courtney Francisco spoke to him one-on-one on Thursday and exchanged emails with his attorney, Keith Carnesale.

Both said no comment at this time.

Court documents show the attorney has asked for proof that Celestin fired a gun or ran.

The Atlanta Police Department confirmed on Monday that it cut all the recruits from the academy.

A statement to Channel 2’s Tyisha Fernandes said in part:

“Actions that compromise the public’s trust or jeopardize community safety will not be tolerated. This incident does not reflect the values or expectations of the Atlanta Police Department.”
