Warrants: Man dumps woman’s body at Atlanta park, throws away her belongings

Atlanta police have charged a man with concealing the death of another and tampering with evidence.

Steven Simmons, 57, faces those charges in connection to the death of a 57-year-old woman. The warrants for Simmons’ arrest identified the victim as Tina Hatchet.

Officers responded around 1:21 a.m. Saturday to Perkerson Park and found Hatchet unresponsive. Paramedics declared her dead at the scene.

The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office will release the cause of death after an autopsy is performed.

According to the warrants, Simmons told investigators that he picked up Hatchet near the West End Mall and that she became unconscious as soon as she got in his SUV.

From there, he drove to Perkerson Park, where he dumped her body in the park, according to the warrants.

Police said that Simmons admitted to driving to Emory University where he threw away Hatchet’s clothes and other items in the dumpsters.

“He admitted to having an active cellphone on his person but failed to call 911 because he panic(ked). He stated he was going to call 911 once he got home,” the warrants stated.

Police arrested Simmons on Saturday. Fulton County jail records show that he posted his bond on Tuesday.
