19-year-old dead after group opens fire during argument in Atlanta neighborhood

ATLANTA — Police are investigating a deadly shooting at a home in southwest Atlanta.

Officers told Channel 2’s Tom Jones during Channel 2 Action News at 6:00 p.m. that two groups began arguing along Celeste Lane.

That’s when one of the groups opened fire on the other.

A 19-year-old was shot and killed. Another 19-year-old was shot in the arm. He took himself to Grady Memorial Hospital and is stable.

Detectives looked for video in the neighborhood that may have captured the shooting in order to narrow down a suspect.

NewsChopper 2 flew over the gated neighborhood and saw a large portion blocked off and many police officers working the scene.

Police said they’re working to figure out what led up to the argument.

Channel 2’s Eryn Rogers spoke to a neighbor who said she heard the shots when she was going to pick up her son from school around 2:50 p.m.

“I heard the shots when I was literally leaving out the house, and I hurried up and left…Got back home and I was told about the troubling news,” Tiffany McBride said.

No arrests have been made. Several people were detained when police arrived on the scene.

Most of them were released. One had an outstanding warrant and was taken into custody, but on charges unrelated to the shooting.
