ATLANTA — Fulton County police said some of their officers shot a man in Southwest Atlanta after he tried pulling a gun on them.
The incident happened shortly before 1 p.m. along Martin Luther King Jr. Drive SW.

Police said they saw a group of people loitering in what is known as a popular drug spot.
When the officers pulled up, a man took off running.

They ordered the man to stop, but he was able to make it into a car.
That’s when the officers told the man to put his hands up.
“At that time, the subject began reaching down and produced a handgun, prompting our officers to discharge their firearms,” Fulton County said in a news release Thursday.
The man was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died from his injuries.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said it has been called in to help with the investigation.
