ATLANTA — A suspect is in custody after an early morning gas station shooting, Atlanta police have confirmed.

Officers were called to a gas station off Northside Drive where one person had been shot in the leg around 4:30 a.m. He was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Channel 2′s Bryan Mims was at the gas station during Channel 2 Action News Saturday AM as police’s investigation appeared to center around a black SUV without a license plate.

Investigators say the victim was walking to his car parked at a gas pump when a suspect walked up to him and began shooting.

The suspect, whose name has not been released, then stole his car and drove away, police said.

The stolen car and suspect were spotted a short time later near the Magic City nightclub on Forsyth St. The suspect tried running from police, but was arrested after being struck by a vehicle.

At that scene, Mims found police investigating a white car in the nightclub’s parking lot.

Police say the suspect was taken to Grady Detention, where he has several charges pending.

There is no word on what led up to the shooting.

Late Friday night, Clayton County police responded to a deadly shooting at a gas station where a masked man was accused of shooting a convenience store employee in the back. They say the suspect left in a black Dodge Journey without a license plate.

Neither Atlanta police or Clayton County police have connected the shootings to one another.
