Speeding started chase that caused driver to crash into Avis; troopers, suspect injured

AVIS rental car office A car crashed into the AVIS rental car office on Courtland Street in downtown Atlanta during a chase with Georgia State Patrol.

ATLANTA — Georgia State Patrol was chasing a driver for speeding when that driver crashed into a car rental business in Atlanta.

GSP says a trooper with a DUI task force tried pulling over a 2012 Audi sedan at 3:30 a.m. on Interstate 85 near Ga. 400 for speeding 85 miles per hour in a 55 miles per hour zone.

The driver sped off and eventually lost control, smashing into the front of an Avis Car Rental business on Courtland Street.

The driver ran off from the crash, but was arrested by an off-duty trooper who was working in the area.

Both troopers and the suspect were injured during the incident, according to GSP.
