CARTERSVILLE, Ga. — Residents in Bartow County say serious flooding is leaving their cars, homes and belongings wrecked.
They blame it all on a nearby construction site.
Homeowners told Channel 2’s Brittany Kleinpeter that the intense flooding happens in a matter of minutes.
Neighbors say the area between a construction site and homes off Burnt Hickory Road has looked like a river in recent months every time it rains.
“You can look out and there’s nothing there and you look out five minutes later and you have a river,” neighbor Judy Corman said.
Corman and her husband Jeff have lived in the area for years and say flooding has never been like this.
Neighbor Ali Broussard said she had to be rescued from her home just last month because of it.

“In about 10-15 minutes, there is about a foot of water, and it just kept getting higher and higher and higher,” Broussard said. “Me and my boyfriend were rescued out of the window with a little inflatable boat.”
Broussard’s home, which has been under renovation since that last storm, was flooded again following this past weekend’s rain.
She and other residents believe the intense flooding is linked to that nearby construction.
Mark Cox, a Bartow County engineer said they are aware of residents’ concerns.
“It could be a contributor, but I couldn’t say that definitely,” Cox said.
A spokesperson with the development group shared this statement regarding the site:
“As the site contractor, Cyclone’s responsibility is solely to build the site according to the approved engineering plans provided to us. Our team works diligently to execute the construction as outlined, adhering to the specific guidelines set forth by the engineers and architects who design the plans.
“It’s important to emphasize that Cyclone does not engage in the design or planning phases of any development. Our expertise lies in the construction process, where we follow the direction provided to us by the design professionals. Our commitment is to complete each project with the highest standards of safety, quality, and efficiency, ensuring that the work is done as specified.
“Cyclone Land Development stands by the quality and precision of our work and will continue to follow all guidelines set by the engineering professionals we collaborate with.”

Cox shared with Kleinpeter a map of the area around the construction site, which showed many of the homes experiencing the flooding lie in a floodplain zone.
“It seems like we get sudden bursts that we didn’t get in past years. They’re high intensity, short period of time,” added Cox.
Cox says residents who live in floodplain zones should consider flood insurance.
