CARROLL COUNTY, Ga. — A Georgia state inmate who escaped from a work detail in Carroll County has been recaptured.
The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that David Emsley Wheeles was taken into custody on Tuesday morning.
“We appreciate everyone’s cooperation and the teamwork among all agencies involved,” officials said.

Around 3:30 p.m. on Monday, a Carroll County Correctional Institute detail officer called 911 to notify authorities that Wheeles was unaccounted for in the area of East Luke Drive and Highway 113 in Temple.
Wheeles was serving a prison sentence for terrorist threats and acts, according to the Georgia Department of Corrections.
On Tuesday morning, authorities found Wheeles in the Villa Rosa Road area, not far from where he escaped. He has now been charged with felony escape.
