Teen accused of killing mom, stepdad in Carroll County indicted

CARROLL COUNTY, Ga. — A teenage girl accused of shooting her mother and stepfather to death in their Carroll County home in February was indicted on Tuesday.

Channel 2’s Candace McCowan was in the courtroom as a judge denied bond to Sarah Grace Patrick, 17.

Patrick was arrested last month after police say she shot and killed James, 45, and Kristin Brock, 41.

She was indicted on eight charges, including murder and aggravated assault.

Her defense attorney says that because of her age, she has been being held in solitary confinement since her arrest.

“She’s in custody, so she takes priority on my trial list,” Judge Dustin Hightower said. “She is in isolation, so again, it’s top of priorities for me to move this case as quickly as possible.”

Patrick will next appear in court on Sept. 22 for an arraignment. The judge is eyeing a potential trial start date of Jan. 5, 2026.

The Carroll County courtroom was packed as emotional family members shared their concerns about the teenager being released.

“My 5-year-old niece then woke up to find her parents lifeless,” James Brock’s sister, Kim Bowling, said. “The trauma this innocent child will carry for the rest of life is unfathomable.”

“I wish I could just hear his voice everyday,” James Brock’s son Trysten Brock said.

Other families, though, are standing by Patrick. Dennis Nolan, Kristin Brock’s father, supports his granddaughter, but did not testify.

“I don’t think [testifying] would have made a bit of difference,” he told McCowan. “It’s their right to speak freely. They’re angry, and it shows.”
