ATHENS, Ga. — The Athens-Clarke County Police Department is investigating a shooting at a dentist’s office near Clarke Central High School.
The shooting happened at McRae Dental located on Baxter Street Monday morning. Officers said Carl Clark, 74 of Athens, shot the woman before 7 a.m.
Police were called to McRae Dental at about 6:38 a.m. after reports came in of gunshots fired on Baxter Street.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation said Clark was found driving in Butts County after leaving Athens following his allegedly shooting someone at McRae Dental.

According to the GBI, Clark was pulled over in Jackson, Georgia for a traffic stop after Butts County deputies received notice he was wanted in Athens.
Deputies found and stopped the car, but during the traffic stop, GBI said Clark shot himself.
He was taken to a local hospital for treatment and is in stable condition, according to GBI.

ACCPD told Channel 2 Action News they are working to learn more about what led up to the shooting, but confirmed a woman was shot by Clark multiple times. Emergency medical personnel took her to a hospital for treatment.
A security alert from the University of Georgia Police Department went out to staff and students at 7:45 a.m., saying ACCPD was investigating a shooting at McCrae Dental.
Clark was charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and aggravated battery.
The victim has not been identified.
