ATHENS, Ga. — University of Georgia wide receiver Colbie Young has reached a plea deal months after he was accused of assault involving his former girlfriend.
Athens-Clarke police arrested Young in October on misdemeanor charges of battery and assault on an unborn child.
On Wednesday, prosecutors dropped the original charges and Young pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of disorderly conduct.

“I think it should have been dismissed, but I don’t think they were being unreasonable at all,” his attorney Kim Stephens told ESPN. “I think in the whole scheme of things, a disorderly conduct charge and a resolution that allows us to enter a no-contest plea and restrict and seal the record because it’s a first-offender plea allows Colbie to move on with the rest of his life. That’s certainly a good result.”
Young will serve a year on probation, pay a $500 fine and attend a family violence intervention program.

Per an Athens-Clarke County police report, Young and his ex-girlfriend had gotten into a heated argument on Oct 8.
According to the report, she told police that Young “grabbed her from behind” and “picked her up and began to squeeze her torso and abdomen very hard,” leaving her with bruises on her chest.
Young denied physically assaulting her. His ex-girlfriend later retracted her statements and asked for the charges to be dropped.
After his arrest, Georgia head coach Kirby Smart suspended Young from team activities until the legal matter was resolved. As of Thursday morning, Smart and UGA have not said if Young has been or will be fully reinstated.
Young transferred to Georgia after two seasons at the University of Miami. He played in five games before his arrest and completed 11 receptions for 149 yards and two touchdowns.
