Kathan Guzman was in court Tuesday in Florida, where he did not oppose extradition.
Clayton County Sheriff Levon Allen told Channel 2’s Tom Jones that Guzman would not be returning to the county jail that accidentally let him go March 27.
Guzman will be transferred directly to state prison instead. Allen also said three workers at the jail, including a supervisor, had been fired in connection with the inmate’s release.
Guzman was convicted in October of killing his ex-girlfriend, 19-year-old Delila Grayson, and sentenced to life in prison without parole.
The victim’s mother, Christina Grayson, said she is relieved Guzman is coming back to Georgia to start his life sentence. She lives in Florida and said she didn’t feel comfortable with her killer being so close to her.
Allen said his workers released Guzman from the jail due to a paperwork error. He said the mistake was due in part to an outdated computer system.
U.S. Marshals recaptured him near Orlando on April 11.
