Suspect taken out in handcuffs in Cobb County SWAT situation

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — A SWAT situation shut down a Cobb County neighborhood on Thursday before police took a suspect into custody.

On Friday morning, police said the incident along Pisgah and Old Alabama roads was in response to a tip from Homeland Security Investigations about human trafficking activity.

Channel 2’s Cory James spoke with neighbors who are trying to figure out what was going on.

“I heard police pull up. I’m like something has to be going on. And then all of a sudden you just hear a big boom,” neighbor Hayley Jenkins said.

Jenkins said she heard a flashbang go off. Between that and the heavy law enforcement presence near her home, it had her scared.

“I jumped up,” she told James.

Cobb County police say officers, along with SWAT team members, were serving a search warrant at a home in the Mableton neighborhood.

“They told me I can’t stand near my house. I can’t even go in,” neighbor Taylor Smith said.

Smith said she was forced to wait outside until the investigation was done, leaving her and her neighbors asking why.

“They told me basically, it’s a lot of drug activity going on and a lot of weaponry going on,” Smith. “This is crazy.”

While investigators were not saying much, our cameras were rolling as officers put someone in handcuffs and placed them into the back of a patrol car.

“We never knew this was a high-risk area, but I guess it is now,” Smith said.

“Very unsettling, especially because I have kids, a one-year-old at that,” Jenkins said.
