They said when they arrived, 31-year-old Shivamkumar Patel told them he believed the customer had shoplifted at the store in the past.
Police made the customer sign a criminal trespass warning.
Channel 2’s Audrey Washington reported this story on Channel 2 Action News at 5 p.m.
The customer signed the warning and police left the store.
“Roughly an hour later they get dispatched back to the same liquor store,” Officer Chuck McPhilamy with the Marietta Police Department told Channel 2’s Audrey Washington.
Police said the customer said he was held up and robbed.
Police said surveillance video showed Patel and his friend, Anil Yaganti, hold the customer at gun point, while the two took turns searching the customer’s car.
The customer told police the two stole his gun. Police said the video proved the customer told the truth.
“The two individuals that were reporting to be victims were in fact suspects in this armed robbery,”Ofc. McPhilamy said.
Both suspects now face serious charges.
“Kidnapping, false imprisonment, armed robbery aggravated assault and entering the vehicle,” Ofc. McPhilamy explained.
