Multiple people detained after shots fired inside Cobb County business

MARIETTA, Ga. — Marietta police are working to learn what led up to a shooting inside an auto and tire shop off of Cobb Parkway.

Officer Chuck McPhilamy with the Marietta Police Department said authorities were called out to a business in the 400 block of Cobb Parkway on reports of a shooting.

“It’s a business very close to the roadway, and we had reports that there was sort of altercation happening inside, including possible gunfire,” McPhilamy said.

McPhilamy said there was a communication barrier when officers arrived on scene, and that there was also confusion about where the shooting had happened.

“You have two different businesses, side by side, which made it more confusing. Those two businesses, while it appears from the front would be connected, are not connected at all,” McPhilamy said.

Officials evacuated 15 people out of the building where T-tires and O Bros Motorsports are located. At one point, authorities shut down all of Cobb Parkway.

“We were able to determine that a gun was fired inside of the business. It was fired at the ceiling and not any one individual,” McPhilamy said.

Authorities say no one was hurt and five people were detained without incident. Police say they are still investigating all possibilities and asking anyone with information to contact them.

“We’re really relieved to say no one was hurt by gunfire and that none of our officers fired any weapons and that we were able to get everyone out of the business safely,” McPhilamy said.
