Channel 2 Cobb County Bureau Chief Michele Newell reported that the victims alerted the Postal Service to what was going on. Mail carrier Bianca Wheat is now in jail, facing numerous felony charges.

Police say Wheat worked at a USPS processing center in Acworth. Some of the homeowners on her route noticed credit cards were missing from their mailboxes and being used.

Investigators believe Wheat worked with others to steal credit cards and identities, draining thousands of dollars from accounts.

“This not only was an inside job, but there’s people outside as well,” said an alleged victim, who asked not to be identified. “Since they haven’t caught them yet, I don’t want anybody to know who I am.”

She was notified that her credit card had arrived in the mail, but it was not there.

“I looked at my email, and it said you’ve got your card,” said one of the alleged victims. “And I was sitting here working and looking out the window, and I saw the postal person drop my mail about five minutes later.”

Soon after, she got another email stating she had gone over the card’s $7,000 limit.

“I called Capital One,” she said. “They said the card was used and activated, which concerned me anyway because I said, ‘How was it activated if I never got it?’”

The same thing happened when the credit card company mailed her a second card with new numbers.

Police say the card information was added to Paypal, and the funds were transferred to another account. Investigators say Wheat stole another card she was supposed to deliver to someone else in the same neighborhood, and there may be more victims.

“We didn’t really become aware that this was something major going on until my neighbors said stuff as well,” the victim said. “And we said, ‘OK, its time to take action.’”
