ATLANTA — The grocery store isn’t the only place where eggs will cost you more; now, they’ll also cost more at Waffle House.
The Norcross-based restaurant chain has announced that they’re temporarily putting a 50¢ surcharge on each egg you order.
The popular spot known for its 24-hour breakfast menu says the surcharge is only in place until the price of eggs comes down.
Egg prices have soared recently amid a shortage following a bird flu outbreak.

Channel 2 Action News checked several Waffle House locations around metro Atlanta.
Several locations inside the city limits of Atlanta had not yet instituted the new surcharge.
But other locations had, placing signs at the door and on menus to notify diners of the higher price.
There are over 2,000 Waffle House restaurants across 25 states.
Waffle House issued the following statement about the surcharge:
The continuing egg shortage caused by HPAI (Bird Flu) has caused a dramatic increase in egg prices. Consumers and restaurants are being forced to make difficult decisions. Effective February 3, Waffle House has implemented a temporary .50 per egg surcharge to all menus.
- Rather than increasing prices across the menu, this is a temporary targeted surcharge tied to the unprecedented rise in egg prices.
- As long as they are available, quality, fresh-cracked, Grade A Large eggs will remain a key ingredient in many of our customers’ favorite meals.
- While we hope these price fluctuations will be short-lived we cannot predict how long this shortage will last.
- We are continuously monitoring egg prices and will adjust or remove the surcharge as market conditions allow.
