Manhunt continues for ‘armed and dangerous’ suspect with AR-15 after chase, GSP K-9 shot

COWETA COUNTY, Ga. — The search for a suspect who shot a Georgia State Patrol K-9 in Coweta County continues but is not an all-out manhunt anymore, officials told Channel 2’s Tom Jones.

The manhunt started Wednesday night after the suspect, identified as Ira Troy Williams, shot the K-9 and led deputies and troopers on a chase.

Deputies say the chase ended in the area of S. Hwy. 29 and Calico Loop near Grantville when the suspect got out of the car and ran.

Deputies said Williams should be considered “armed and dangerous” and is wanted for murder out of Atlanta.

Coweta County Sheriff Lenn Wood said Williams had an AR-15 when he ran from the scene. Wood said a GSP K-9 was shot during the chase with Williams.

According to the City of Sandy Springs, the K-9 was flown via helicopter to BluePearl Pet Hospital on Abernathy Road for emergency surgery.

“Those in the area are asked to get inside and lock the doors and report any suspicious activity,” the sheriff’s office wrote in an alert to the community.

GSP said the K-9’s name is Armor and the dog has been treated and released from the animal hospital.
