5-year-old Decatur boy safe after being abducted by his non-custodial mother

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A 5-year-old boy is safe and with his family after police say his mother, who does not have custody of him, abducted the child.

DeKalb County police said they were called out to a person hit by a car around 4:30 p.m. along Columbia Crossing Drive.

Police said when they got to the scene, they found the man had serious injuries from the incident.

Witnesses told the officer that the boy’s mother had gotten into an argument with the family of the boy’s father, and she took the boy and left. She also hit a family member in the process, DeKalb police said.

The mother and the boy were later found on Amanda Drive. The mom was taken into custody, and the boy was returned to other family members.
