DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — A community is mourning the loss of a DeKalb County high school football player.
Mikah King was playing football at Arabia Mountain High School on Tuesday afternoon when he was taken away in an ambulance.

A district spokesperson confirmed he passed away after experiencing a medical emergency during football practice.
The sophomore was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

The principal wrote a letter to parents, students, and staff saying, “The entire King family is in our thoughts and prayers, and we ask that you keep them lifted in love and comfort as they navigate this heartbreaking moment.”

The district confirmed they did have grief counselors on campus on Wednesday and will continue to do so in the coming days.
We’re still working to figure out the details that led up to King’s medical emergency.
Mikah’s family started a GoFundMe to help with funeral and memorial costs.
