DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Dunwoody police have one suspect in custody and two others are on the run after they broke into the Perimeter Mall with a sledgehammer.
The department says one of their officers shot one of the suspects following a brief chase.
“The vehicle intentionally drover toward the officers,” Sgt. Michael Cheek told Channel 2’s Tom Regan. “That’s when our officer fires shots and the vehicle continued fleeing after that.”

Broken windows were boarded up and cleaned, and the mall is open as normal.
Channel 2’s Brittany Kleinpeter reported live from the scene on Channel 2 Action News This Morning as the investigation unfolded.
Sgt. Cheek told Channel 2 Action News that officers responded to a burglary call at the mall around 3 a.m. Thursday.
Police said the suspects used a sledgehammer to break into Request, a store that sells high-end sneakers and handbags. The group got away with several items of unknown value.
A mall security guard saw the suspects leave the mall and confronted them. The group stole the guard’s car and started a brief chase with Dunwoody police that ended across the street on Perimeter Center East.
Dunwoody police said officers confronted the suspects and fired shots. One of the suspects was shot, according to Cheek.
Two of the suspects got out of the car and ran. The third drove off and crashed down the street.
Police confirmed that one suspect is in custody. They are searching for the other two.
“They determined he had a single gunshot wound, provided medical treatment and he is still being treated for those,” Sgt. Cheek said.
