Bryan Allen Cosey, 50, of Stone Mountain, a former media assistant in the IT department at the DeKalb County school, was arrested on Jan. 16, more than two months after the student accused him of touching and groping her while she was in the school’s media center last year.

The victim told police that on Nov. 15, 2024, she went to the media center to get assistance with her laptop when Cosey began assaulting her inside an office.

“(Cosey) grabbed her ponytail, then rubbed down her back to her waist and rubbed her hips and buttocks,” an investigator wrote in his affidavit. “While pointing her to a seat outside of (the) office, (Cosey) touched her hips, waist and buttocks again.”

Investigators obtained video evidence that corroborated the student’s account of the assault, according to an arrest affidavit.

Channel 2 Action News reached out to district officials and a spokesperson shared the following email Chamblee High School Principal Gail Barnes sent to parents and guardians:

At Chamblee High School and across the DeKalb County School District (DCSD), our top priorities are the safety and well-being of our students and staff.

School administrators received an allegation against a Chamblee High staff member involving a minor student toward the end of last semester. Following District security protocols, the employee was placed on administrative leave and prohibited from accessing any DCSD schools and properties.

The District followed established security protocols to address the matter promptly. As of January 17, 2025, the staff member is no longer employed with the DeKalb County School District.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support of our school community.”

As of Thursday afternoon, Cosey did not have a lawyer, according to court records.

Channel 2′s Michael Seiden spoke off-campus with several students about the allegations.

“It does surprise me because I didn’t really get that vibe from him,” said Etta Potthoff, a student at Chamblee High School. “I’ve had multiple encounters with that faculty member and he never striked me as odd. But, he was always a stickler about rules.”
