DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Reality star Karlie Redd spoke after the burglary charges against her were dropped.
Real name Karlie Lewis, the “Love and Hip Hop Atlanta” star was accused of breaking into her estranged husband’s DeKalb County home in April. She was accused of stealing items, including a watch and a birth certificate.
“Absolutely not, absolutely not. I went over there to check in on my husband because I was worried about him,” Lewis told Channel 2’s Audrey Washington.
She explained the arrest was related to her ongoing divorce and claimed she experienced abuse during her marriage.
“He got arrested for domestic abuse, after that they’re telling me you have to come in for an arrest warrant. I was blindsided,” she said.
“The bogus case against my client Karlie Redd Lewis, one of the stars of the show ‘Love and Hip Hop Atlanta,’ has been dismissed,” said Lewis’ attorney, Steve Sadow.
The order from prosecutors indicated that while there was probable cause, the state could not prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt.
Her ex-husband could not be reached for comment.
Redd expressed her desire to move forward and help others.
“I’m just so happy that I can use my voice and move on with my life and use this as a chapter where I can help other women heal,” she said.
