BROOKHAVEN, Ga. — A mother accused of murdering her 9-year-old son in Michigan is now sitting in the Cobb County Jail.
She’s also accused of abusing her 3-year-old son in DeKalb County.
Investigators in Michigan are relieved to know that Brandee Pierce, 41, is off the streets.
“The cause of death according to the medical examiner was smothering and neck compression,” Michigan prosecutor Kym Worthy said.
They say she killed her 9-year-old son in October and buried his body in the backyard of a house she was renting.
“It is alleged she purchased a shovel, she bound him by tying his hands and feet together and dug a hole in the back of the house on Woodingham where she had been living for a short time,” Worthy said.
She left Michigan and headed to Georgia with her other son who is 3 years old.

Brookhaven police said she was hiding out in metro Atlanta for about two months when they found her 3-year-old alone with no clothes on in a locked car that was turned off in 40-degree weather.
They arrested Pierce for cruelty to children while she was inside a business trying to sell plasma.
She bonded out but was picked up again a few weeks later when Cobb County police said she was driving a stolen rental car.
That same week, investigators in Michigan had already issued a murder warrant for her older son.
Brookhaven police believe they may have prevented further harm to the 3-year-old.
“We are charging Brandee Katrice Pierce today with murder in the 1st degree premeditation. Count 2 is homicide felony murder,” Worthy said.
Pierce will sit in the Cobb County Jail until Michigan authorities extradite her on the more serious charge of murder.
Her 3-year-old is currently in the care of DeKalb Child Services.
