DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — Multiple law enforcement agencies are investigating the robbery of a Chick-fil-A and a deadly crash involving the suspect.
According to Georgia State Patrol, troopers responded to a crash around 9:30 p.m. Monday on Peachtree Road at Piedmont Road. Investigators said Santario Barnwell, 23 years old, was trying to get away from Atlanta police when the car ran a red light, crashing into another vehicle and killing the innocent bystander.
The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the driver who was killed as 26-year-old Richard O. Wells Jr.
Sources said the driver involved in the chase with police was the suspect in the robbery of a Chick-fil-A a short time earlier. The suspect was taken into custody and to a hospital for treatment.

DeKalb County police said they responded to the Chick-fil-A at 650 Decatur Village Way around 8:40 p.m. and found several employees had been pepper sprayed.
An employee told police the suspect took a cash drawer from a register at the drive-thru window and sped away.
Atlanta police said the suspect’s car was stolen recently. DeKalb police and Sandy Springs police are investigating robberies from the weekend they believe Barnwell also was involved in.
