Suspects arrested after crash involving DeKalb police

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — DeKalb County police were involved in an incident where a suspect vehicle crashed into a patrol car, officials said.

Channel 2’s Audrey Washington reported live along Lawrenceville Highway and North Druid Hills Road, near a Home Depot on Channel 2 Action News at 6:00 p.m.

Police said the incident occurred as officers were meeting with a complainant outside a business regarding a prior theft.

Police said the suspects and stolen items were outside the Home Depot.

During this meeting, the suspects crashed their vehicle into the patrol car. The driver was taken into custody while another ran away, according to police.

According to DKPD, the officer is expected to be OK. Their identity was not released.

The driver was quickly taken into custody. The passenger ran away.

NewsChopper 2 flew over the scene where police were searching for the second suspect in a nearby neighborhood.

After an extensive hunt, police tracked down and arrested that suspect on Flamingo Drive. Police told Washington the second suspect was taken into custody just before 6:30 p.m.

Both suspects have been taken to the DeKalb County Jail. Their identities and charges will be released later.
