On Jan. 15, the Cherokee County District Attorney’s Office closed a multi-defendant RICO case after the final suspect entered a negotiated guilty plea and was sentenced.

The case involved six suspects who stole a doctor’s prescription pad to get medications. The medications included Adderall, Alprazolam, Hydrocodone, Phentermine, and Tramadol.

In Sept. 2022, police started noticing illegal activity when a Roswell medical practice learned 49-year-old Leslie Joann Archambault, who was a former employer, had been filling phony prescriptions using doctor’s credentials.

Cherokee County officials said the 49-year-old got the prescription pads while working at the medical practice. Authorities said she used the prescription pads to write prescriptions for her associates in the enterprise, as well as for herself.

A judge sentenced Archambault to 15 years with the first three served in prison and the remainder on probation.

“This defendant has a history of committing fraud in one form or another, manipulating and using family members and friends to acquire medications that were not legally prescribed to her,” said Deputy Chief Assistant District Attorney Damion Overstreet, of the Gang and Organized Crime Unit. “In this case, she tried to outsmart authorities by recruiting other individuals to assist her in her scheme. Fortunately, an extensive CMANS investigation put a stop to this organized crime.”
