PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. — Peachtree City officials are asking the public to stay clear of the lagoon near the park at Battery Way due to algae growth.
Officials are testing water samples to see if the algae is a harmful species that can harm humans and animals.
Test results are expected within a few days, so until then, they ask that no one swim, fish, enter, or allow pets into the water.
No other bodies of water in Peachtree City are affected.

According to the Atlanta-based Centers for Disease Control (CDC), algae occur naturally in water and are more likely to grow into a harmful algal bloom when water is warm, slow-moving, and full of nutrients, such as nitrogen or phosphorus.
If algae found in a body of water is dangerous to humans or pets, it can cause a variety of mild to serious illnesses.
If you or your animal goes into water with an algal bloom, rinse off with tap water as soon as possible.
If your pet seems sick after going in or near water, contact a veterinarian right away.
