FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office is mourning the loss of a longtime deputy.
Sergeant Daniel Rush died Monday night at Northside Forsyth Hospital from complications from a recently diagnosed critical illness.
Rush was under hospice care for the past week at the hospital. He was the longest continuously serving member of the sheriff’s department.

His 35th anniversary with the sheriff’s office would have been on February 8.
Rush was recognized with the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office Purple Heart award after he confronted a deranged gunman on the courthouse steps in 2014.
He was also selected as the Deputy Sheriff of the Year for Valor for the entire state of Georgia in 2014 by the Georgia’s Sheriff’s Association.
The sheriff’s office said a memorial service for Rush is being planned for some time in the next couple of weeks.
