ATLANTA — The Atlanta Fire Department responded to the Fulton County Jail on Thursday morning after reports of a fire.
An AFRD spokesperson told Channel 2 Action News that firefighters found a pile of trash smoldering inside the jail.
The Fulton County Sheriff’s Office said jail staff used a fire extinguishers to put out the fire
AFRD said eight people complained of smoke inhalation. The jail said though it didn’t have any complaints of smoke inhalation.
A spokesperson said 17 inmates in the affected zone were evaluated and medically cleared. One staff member was also evaluated and cleared.
Officials are investigating the source of the fire.
