‘It’s very scary:’ Serial burglar wanted for sexually assaulting homeowner

EAST POINT, Ga. — Police in East Point are searching for a man who is suspected of a string of burglaries in the Heritage Park subdivision.

Since December, they say he has broken into three homes, at night, and in one instance, attacked a resident.

“He technically sexually assaulted a female. We are securing warrants for all that now,” said East Point Police Sgt. JL Watkins.

Police say the suspected burglar, Jacquez Walker, has committed similar crimes in the past.

“In 2019, we actually secured warrants for him and arrested him for burglary in the same Heritage Park subdivision,” said Sgt. Watkins.

Police say Walker has been arrested for burglary in other cities around metro Atlanta.

Neighbors are on edge, hoping the suspect will be caught soon.

“Apparently, this guy is breaking into people’s homes in the middle of the night, 2 to 3 a.m. and staring at people while they’re sleeping. So, it is kind of weird,” said neighbor Russell Blake.

Another neighbor, who wished to remain anonymous, told Channel 2′s Tom Regan that she arrived to begin moving into her home on Jan. 19, when she discovered a broken window.

“There was glass everywhere on the floor. Somebody broke in through the front window. Luckily, I did not have anything in there, and we were not in the house,” the neighbor said.

Police say the suspect is known to hide out in vacant homes. They have stepped up patrols in the neighborhood and are actively searching for the suspect.
