ROSWELL, Ga. — In October, Channel 2 Action News reported that General Motors was closing its Roswell-based Innovation Center.
On Monday, GM’s official 60-day notice with Georgia officials became public.
The Oct. 27 filing shed new light on the more than 300 terminations coming to GM employees in the metro area due to the office’s closure.

According to the details filed in the company’s WARN Notice, a federally-required separation document, most of the Sun Valley Drive employees will officially be out of work on Dec. 12. Facility operations ended at the office on Oct. 27.
While all 325 employees at the Georgia IT Innovation Center were given notice of the closure, the company said some may be able to continue their employment in other parts of the company.

Others, who are needed for continued critical work, will continue operating remotely until Dec. 12.
Additionally, the company told state officials in its notice that “there will be no bumping rights for affected employees,” meaning senior employees cannot displace junior employees from their positions due to the closure.
In a statement shared with Channel 2 Action News in October, the company said it was closing the Georgia IT Innovation Center after 12 years of operations due to an effort toward redefining company site strategy.
“We are redefining our site strategy, unifying our technical teams in targeted hubs for better collaboration,” a company spokesperson said previously. “With that, we’ve made the difficult decision to close our Georgia Innovation Center. We recognize the efforts of the individuals whose roles are impacted, and we thank them for their contributions.”
As previously reported, GM will pay severance to the employees, per company policy.
