LAGRANGE, Ga. — A woman has died after being attacked by a pair of dogs on Friday morning.

LaGrange police say they were called to a home on Swanson Street near Juniper Street just after 11 a.m.

When they arrived, they said they found 60-year-old Theresa Patterson being attacked by two large dogs.

Officers were able to stop the attack and provide first aid until Patterson could be taken to West Georgia Medical Center, where she died.

Neighbors told Channel 2’s Eryn Rogers that officers had to shoot and kill one dog to get it off the victim.

Another neighbor said he was attacked by the same dogs earlier in the week.

Rogers spoke to the dogs’ owners. They said they have a brown pit bull, which is the dog that attacked the woman and was shot.

They said they also have a black Cane Corso. They said authorities took the Cane Corso after the attack, but shared Ring video that they said shows the Cane Corso in front of the home during the attack.

Jessie Mathews said Patterson was on her way to visit him when the attack happened.

“This shouldn’t have had to happen,” Mathews said.

Patterson’s grandson, Qua Tucker, said he can forgive and will focus on remembering the good times with his grandmother, whom he described as outspoken, loving, and witty.

“She was one who’s definitely going to be missed,” Tucker said. “She’s the glue that held our family together.”

However, he said he’d like to see justice served for his grandmother.

“I feel like the appropriate party should be held accountable,” Tucker said. “They should serve time. It was someone’s life, my grandmother’s.”

Police say they are continuing to investigate and haven’t said if charges will be coming.
