GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Gwinnett County Police arrested 10 people in connection with a massive porch piracy operation that led to more than $6 million in stolen merchandise over seven months.
What started as routine porch piracy quickly revealed a sophisticated alleged “syndicate” that shipped stolen electronics around the world.
“Little did we know at that time that it was actually a part of a larger operation, culminating in millions of dollars,” Cpl. Juan Madiedo told Channel 2 Gwinnett County Bureau Chief Matt Johnson.
The investigation began in November 2024 when officers say they caught two men stealing packages in the act. On May 29, police raids hit six homes across Gwinnett County, Doraville and Johns Creek at the same time.

Officers recovered more than 5,000 electronic devices including cell phones, tablets, laptops and gaming consoles.
Police also seized $1.2 million in cash and five guns during the operation.
Investigators say the suspects used the houses to package stolen items and ship them both domestically and internationally. The operation extended beyond metro Atlanta, reaching across Georgia and even into parts of the Southeastern United States.
Neighbor Toni Hale-Tinner watched tactical officers surround a house on Holland Grove Road near Lawrenceville during the raids.
“You never think that your neighbors are doing such unsettling activity,” Hale-Tinner said.
The 10 suspects face charges under Georgia’s RICO Act, typically used in organized crime cases. Additional charges include retail property fencing, theft by taking and possession of tools for commission of a crime.
More than 2,000 of the recovered devices have been confirmed stolen and returned to wireless carriers, according to police.
Police worked with federal agencies including the FBI, Homeland Security and Customs and Border Protection to dismantle the operation.
