The Georgia State Patrol identified the person killed as Martinez Greenlee, 19, from Norcross. It happened Monday just after 1 a.m. along Beaver Ruin Road.
Gwinnett police said the officer was traveling eastbound on Interstate 85 and Beaver Ruin Road. Authorities said at that time, the officer hit someone attempting to cross the road, where there wasn’t a crosswalk.
Officials said the officer immediately rendered aid to help the victim. The man was taken to Northside Gwinnett Hospital, where they later died from his injuries.
Georgia State Patrol says Greenlee was dressed in dark clothing and not in the crosswalk when the collision occurred.
The officer has not been charged.
GSP continues to investigate the incident.
