“For me it was horrible. You imagine for the people that live in that building,” said Maria Perales, a neighbor who lives next door to the affected apartments.
“So I don’t know what happened in the apartment next to me, but in couple minutes all is fire,” said Abner Iglesias, a resident who escaped the fire with his son.
“We are always evaluating that structure at all times,” Lt. Jessica Joiner of Gwinnett County Fire said.
The fire at the Oxford Apartments was brought under control within about 30 minutes by firefighters using ladder trucks. At least ten apartments were damaged in the blaze, leaving families unsure of where to start after losing everything.
The cause of the fire has not yet been released.
The displaced families face uncertainty as they begin to rebuild their lives.
“Yeah, I don’t have nothing. All my things is on fire,” Iglesias said.
