When firefighters arrived, they couldn’t see any fire visible from outside the single-story house.
A neighbor told them they believed that the homeowner was currently inside.
Once firefighters checked the house, they discovered a smoke-filled room.
Crews deployed several fire hoses to control the flames and began to search the home for any victims.
Search teams found an unresponsive elderly woman on a hospital bed in the living room.
She was taken to Northside Hospital in critical condition.
Fire investigators determined the cause of the accidental fire was related to smoking products.
While firefighters were dealing with that fire, crews responded to another house fire just a few miles south.
Investigators say the two fires were not related.
Crews arrived to the 3200 block of Ennfield Lane NW in Duluth and saw heavy fire involvement in the home’s garage.
There were no injuries reported at that address.
The second fire is under investigation.
