GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Two people went to the hospital after they were shot outside a hotel near Gwinnett Place Mall Thursday morning.
It happened outside the Sonesta Select hotel on Venture Parkway, just off Pleasant Hill Road and Interstate 85. Channel 2’s Bryan Mims reported live from the scene for Channel 2 Action News This Morning.

Gwinnett County police received the call around 12:30 a.m. and arrived to find two people with gunshot wounds. Both are expected to recover, police said.
Shawn Jones was standing outside the front door of the Sonesta Select hotel to smoke a cigarette when it all began.
“Not even five minutes, I heard gunshots,” he said. “And I’m standing right there and I don’t know anywhere else but to run behind and just stood there. It was just of the blue.”

He said the shooting happened near the swimming pool, and one of the victims was trying to enter through the front door.
“I seen the dude on the ground trying to get in the door and the other guy got shot in the leg,” he said.
He figured he heard six or seven shots, and he detected what felt like a bullet breeze by his head.
“I just ran behind the wall to take cover,” he said.
Dell Robinson was a guest at the Sonesta Select when he heard police at the Quality Inn next door.
“Basically, I just heard the police in the other hotel over the loudspeaker telling someone to come out,” he said. “I didn’t hear any gunshots.”
Police have not given any details about what led to the shooting, and they have not made any arrests. Police cleared both scenes a little after 7 a.m.
