GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Gwinnett County police are searching for two men who robbed a Dollar General last month, but they didn’t actually get away with any money.
Police say two men, one of whom had a machete, walked into the store on Lawrenceville Suwanee Road near Dean Road on May 19.
Investigators told Channel 2 Gwinnett County Bureau Chief Matt Johnson that the terrifying attack was caught on surveillance video.
“The video speaks for itself as very dangerous individuals,” said Cpl. Juan Madiedo with Gwinnett County Police. “They actually waited for patrons to leave the store and assaulted these two employees.”

The attackers forced one worker to the ground while making the other open the store’s safe with the weapon in hand. But the timing didn’t work in their favor.
“Fortunately for the business, those safes had just been emptied, so there was no money to be taken,” Madiedo said. “However, they did make away with the two cell phones of the two victims.”
The employee told police the men never checked the bags before running out of the store, getting into a white Jeep Wrangler and driving off.

Police say they don’t have any other similar cases in the area and they’re fortunate no one was hurt.
“It’s not a usual crime that you see someone arm themselves with a machete. Very violent,” Madiedo said. “So we need these individuals caught.”
The men were wearing what looked like work uniforms, which investigators think could be the key to identifying them. Police want anyone who recognizes the shirts or the men to come forward.
