Police said it happened July 20 on Lake Lucerne Road when a driver, upset over a left turn, followed the family, caused a minor crash and then fired a rifle at their vehicle.

The father, who asked not to be identified, told Channel 2 Gwinnett County Bureau Chief Matt Johnson that he was traveling with his wife and two young daughters.

“My kids are screaming, they’re in the car crying, my wife’s hysterical,” he said Friday.

The suspect, identified as 21-year-old Gary Tysinger, was arrested weeks later on multiple felony charges, including aggravated assault.

Police say Tysinger followed the family’s car, passed into oncoming traffic, and after causing a minor crash, reversed and hit them again before firing a rifle through his rear window.

The father expressed disbelief at the violence.

“It could have been at a different angle, then it’s our windshield that shattered. Then it’s my wife that got shot,” he said.

Tysinger was already on probation before the arrest. He remains in custody without bond after his court hearing was postponed.
