Man dies in shooting in Locust Grove home

HENRY COUNTY, Ga. — Neighbors are still shaken after police say a man shot and killed someone in his home and put officers’ lives in jeopardy when they arrived.

“I’m just in disbelief. This a quiet neighborhood,” neighbor David Thomas told Channel 2’s Tom Jones.

Neighbors who live on Weymouth Drive in Locust Grove are still shocked violence interrupted the peace of their community, leaving a man dead and a woman injured.

“My goodness,” one neighbor said.

Neighbor Alexander Hilton says it was just after 8 a.m. Wednesday when he heard several shots.

“Sounded like five consecutive and two after,” he said.

Police say when they arrived, the bullets were still flying.

“They heard the firearm being discharged in the house,” Chief Derrick Austin said.

Officers were prepared to go in the home, since they knew two other people were inside. But they didn’t have to.

“When they were fixing to make entry, a male subject came out of the front door and surrendered to them,” Chief Austin said.

Officers went in the home and say they found a man dead in a bedroom and a woman hiding upstairs.

“My heart goes out to that family, because I talk to his wife. I talk to him,” Hilton explained.

He said a husband, wife and son he knows live in the home. Hilton says the father and son had some disagreements lately.

“They had some problems that they were working through,” he said.

He thought they were making progress, and now this.

“It’s very sad and I hate that it happened,” he said.

Police are working on identifying the man who was killed. They say the woman was injured and taken to the hospital.

Officers believe this is a domestic shooting.

They haven’t released the name of the suspected shooter, but say he was belligerent with officers during questioning at headquarters.
