From what the school district told Channel 2’s Tom Regan, the shooter may be another student.
“The little girl was standing right here. I don’t know if that was her that we seen. Oh, my heart is going, this violence needs to stop,” a neighbor who asked not to be named told Regan.
She believes she saw the Stone Mountain High School student at the school bus stop moments before she was shot.

Another neighbor, David Rowland, said he heard gunfire at about 7 a.m., around the time kids climb on the bus.
“So that had you concerned?” Regan asked Rowland.
“Absolutely,” Rowland said. “I just knew it was very close. I got a call from one of my neighbors and he said, ‘did you hear that?’”
Regan watched school police and DeKalb investigators comb the area around the bus stop for evidence, including shell casings.
They also appeared to download security video from an array of cameras at the entrance to an apartment complex across the street from the bus stop.
Police have said little on the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
But a statement from DeKalb County Schools suggests another student was involved, saying school police are actively investigating the incident and appropriate disciplinary action will be taken.
Another neighbor, Anthony Howard, gave his reaction to the student shooting.
“It’s sad, man. It’s sad,” Howard told Regan. “My thoughts go out to her and her family.”
The school system said that because this involves students and it is still an active investigation, they would not be able to provide additional details at this time.
Here is the district’s full statement:
“School administration and DCSD’s Division of Public Safety are actively investigating the incident, and appropriate disciplinary action will be taken. We are also continuing to reinforce expectations for safe and appropriate student behavior on campus, at bus stops, and during student transportation. DCSD encourages families to speak with their children about the importance of making positive choices, resolving conflicts appropriately, and reporting concerns to school staff.”
