Witnesses told Channel 2’s Eryn Rogers that a Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. chapter had a permit to host a picnic at the park. They said a random man with a face mask walked up to them and started fighting with some of the fraternity brothers.
As they tried to calm him down, the man started shooting. One of the fraternity brothers died, according to witnesses.
Atlanta police said others who had their concealed carry permit fired back at the suspect, who is in critical condition.
A third person who was shot and a person grazed by a bullet took themselves to the hospital. Police have not identified any of the victims or the suspect. Police said the man who died was not involved in the fight.
People at the park described him as a mentor for the younger men in the fraternity and said he was a father.
