ROSWELL, Ga. — Police departments from around the metro and state are offering condolences tonight after one of their own was killed in the line of duty.
On Friday evening just after 7 p.m., a Roswell police officer responded to a shopping center along Market Boulevard for a suspicious person.

Roswell Police Chief Jim Conroy said the officer was immediately met with gunfire and was shot multiple times. He was taken to the hospital where he died from his injuries.
“One of our officers was shot and killed while serving the citizens of Roswell,” Conroy said.

After news of the officer’s death, tributes from metro police departments continued to pour in.
Powder Springs Police Department

While serving the Roswell community and responding to a report of a suspicious person, a Roswell Police officer was shot and killed in the line of duty earlier this evening. The suspect was immediately located and taken into custody.

The shooter was quickly taken into custody. Police have not released the names of the officer killed or the shooter.
