Police release cause of death for 6-month-old reported missing

CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. — The Clayton County Police Department confirmed the cause of death for a 6-month-old baby who disappeared.

Channel 2’s Tom Jones learned at a news conference Friday that Nnakai Pratt died of blunt force trauma, according to investigators.

Police have charged Nnakai’s parents, Antonio Pearce and Necolette Pratt. Both appeared before a judge Friday and were denied bond.

Det. Chieyene Reynolds said at a news conference that Pearce told them a lot of lies during questioning. Witness statements and digital forensics from his phone led them to the area where Nnakai’s body was found outside the family’s apartment.

Reynolds said she could not discuss a motive.

Major Francisco Romero said the case has taken a toll on the community and on the officers as well.

“We felt that they were hurting, but we ourselves were hurting,” Romero said.

Channel 2’s Tom Jones obtained a copy of the warrants filed against Pearce and Pratt on Thursday.

According to police, the child’s father, Antonio Pearce, did something that fatally injured him. Pearce then hid the body in an area outside of the apartment where he lives.

Investigators revealed that his body was found “discarded in a trash bag.”

The warrant stated the mother, Necolette Pratt, tried to assist in covering up the crime.
