ATLANTA — Publix will be closing two stores in metro Atlanta just days after Christmas.
The grocery chain confirmed to Channel 2 Action News Atlantic Station and 2562 Shallowford Rd. NE locations are closing for good on Dec. 27. Employees were notified on Monday.
Publix said in a statement to Channel 2 Action News that a “number of factors” went into the decision to close the stores. It will be offering associates positions at neighboring stores.
“In our 95-year history, Publix has never had a layoff,” a spokesperson said.

Channel 2’s Audrey Washington was outside the Publix at Atlantic Station talking to customers who were sad to see the store go.
“I live over here, and I like that it’s walkable, close by. I can just go and get whatever I need quickly,” said shopper Didem Pehlivanglu.
A spokesperson for Atlantic Station shared a statement that said they see this as “an opportunity to reimagine the space and consider concepts that will add new options and value to the surrounding community.”

Customers can visit five other Publix stores within a 2-mile radius of Atlantic Station:
